Disenfranchised Americana

"And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities." -Sarah Palin (RNC Convention)

..."worked as a community organizer. What? He worked -- I said -- I said, OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume." -Rudy Giuliani
(RNC Convention)

Now I get lost and caught in the overgrowing tumult of American politics. I've come to consider myself as one who stays away from politics because of how frustrating the whole venture can be. When does the flow of information stop? When can I stop weighing variable against variable; politician against politician?

But with the remarks from the Republican National Convention by both Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani, I know that I could never invest a breath of hopeful air in their stale rank of politics. The statements made did even more so bolster my opinion that there is a definite elitism found in American politics. Their statements were not only a shot at Barack Obama, but a clean shot at Americans throughout the country that these "Representatives" are to be representing. These Americans as depicted by both Palin and Giuliani, are referred to as inferior. How on earth can a person as a candidate in the environment of equality, attack the men and women who fight for what they believe for, without guns or ammo, and go after their streets and their surrounding communities in order to spur people to move forward and achieve more.

From the churches to the YMCA's to the College Campuses to the American NGO's, these two politicians representing the Grand Old Party took their stance and deemed their climb to the top of the American Political Hierarchy as a complete disposal of the aforementioned community groups. These remarks which were layered in apathy and disdain, stole the work away from the men and women who consider themselves community organizers, who work their asses off in order to fight for their community. Persons who take up after their work schedules, after their daily family routines, persons who go out and believe and take action according to a belief and invest it in the community surrounding them. These bourgeois politicos shot bullets at the men and women who are those that truly personify a supposed American Liberty. "Actual Responsibilities," what a shot on what once had a luster, but I guess now is considered trite or worthless unless you use it only as a platform to shoot your way selfishly to the top; climb up and up until you reach the pinnacle so then you can look down foolishly on your fellow neighbors and fellow friends.

What I find more astonishing is that men and women who go to churches, work in YMCA's, attend school PTA's, people who work in their communities will still vote for these representatives. Their negligible embrace of right-wing party politics doesn't allow them to feel disenfranchised. These men and women will disregard the wounds given them by their comrades in order to win for Truth or some other asinine term. As if community, respect, and liberty are terms no longer valuable. How easy is it for a man to be brainwashed? Ask the community who votes for McCain and Palin and you will find out.
